Planning - Considering Mise-en-Scene For Your Opening

Mise-en-Scene

Introduction

Every single detail on this page will extremely help us organise what we need to buy or gather to make our film more professional and interesting. Most products we have but some will have to be brought and we would need to do some research on this to make sure we buy the best product.

Costumes

Chad

Clothes:
Chad would wear a tight fitting white T-shirt to outline his muscles
and dark blue jeans with fashionable trainers. He would carry a jacket or jumper and wear it occasionally.

Reason:
The reason for this choice in clothes is we think that it outlines his personality and shows that he is obsess with his appearance.

Images:
White T-shirt

Dark blue jeans

Nike trainers

Grey jumper

  • Billy

Clothes:
Billy's clothes would be a big dull coloured jacket with baggy/lose dark blue jeans and some simple trainers.

Reason:
The reason for this is that Billy's clothes need to be baggy and boring to make a chilled out look to represent his personality.

Images:

Baggy dark jeans

Basic trainers

  • Jodie

Clothes:
Jodie's clothes would be a checkered shirt, glasses, band T-shirt, black trousers, conserves or docs and long hippie necklaces.

Reason:
We have chosen these clothes because it highlights that she is geeky, urban and chilled.

Docs

Long hippie necklaces

  • Tim

Clothes:
Tim would wear something smart but casual like beige trousers, camping boots, brown opened top and jumper.

Reason:
The reason for these chose of clothes was to express Tim's personality of being a smart and kind lad.

Jumper

  • 'The girl in white'

Clothes:
The girl will be wearing a white vintage looking nightgown.

Reason:
The reason for this is to highlight that she has ran away
and that she is a scary little girl.

Props

We need:
  • A pair of glasses
Reason:
The reason we need glasses is for the character Jodie to make her vintage image stand out more.

Image:

  • Torturing tools
Reason:
We need these props as without them there wouldn't be any clear reason to what  'The girl in white' is going to do to the group of teenagers.

Image:

  • Wood
Reason:
Wood is going to be used to make fire for one of the night time scenes.

Image:

  • Two tents
reason:
One tent is for Chad and Billy another tent is for Tim and Jodie. The tents makes the audience believe that there are camping and staying in the woods in the middle of nowhere. the second tent is incase the first tent break.

Image:

  • Ropes
Reason:
The ropes will be used to tie up all the group to the trees to highlight that they have been kidnapped and about to be murdered and eaten by 'The girl in white'

Image:

Equipment

  • Laptop
Reason:
We need the laptop to connect to the TV to show the news clip that we would have made. Without this we wouldn't be able to show the news story.

Image:

  • Car/Van
Reason:
When we go to film we would need a car or van to take us there and back from locations, if not then we wouldn't be able to get to our destination in one trip.

Image:

  • Two cameras
Reason:
We might just need one camera but we will bring two just in case one of the cameras runs out of battery or we need to film one thing at to different angles at once.

Image:

  • Lighter
Reason:
The lighter will be used to make the fire and without it we would struggle making the fire for the night time scene.

Planning - Casting For Your Opening

Casting

Introduction

The reason for making this page is to help me and my group decide who will be playing the characters in our film and why. This page will help us though-out the rest of our planning as it will help are decisions in mise-en-scene, shot list and treatment.

Their name: George
Characters name: Chad

Their age: 16
Characters age: 18

Their personality:  George is a joker that stays to him self but talks to anyone when he wants.

Characters personality: The character Chad is annoying, rude and acts like a jock and a joker. He is the oldest of the group so he picks on people but says its a joker and doesn't notice he can hurt peoples feelings.

Reason for picking George: We picked George to play Chad as he physically and mentally suits the character. We all know that George is confident and will do what we say in front of the camera.

This is a picture of George who is playing Chad.

3
 Their name: Alex
Characters name: Billy

Their age: 16
Characters age: 17

Their personality: Alex is sometimes quite but also very confident and sometimes annoying. His look is a typical teenage boy with a bit of a chilled out vibe.
Characters personality: The characters personality is somewhat the same as Alex's as in the clothes he wears. The difference between them is that Billy is has a slow chilled out vibe to him and when he talks its either a joke or something rude. Billy and  Jodie are a couple and there relationship is a typical horror movie relationship as there personality and physical appearance is what you normal see in a horror movie or any movie.

Reason for picking Alex: The reason we picked Alex was that we all knew that he would suit the part because his looks matches the characters name and personality. Also half of his personality is the same as the character Billy we want him to play.

This is a picture of Alex who is playing Billy.

Their name: Ophelia
 Characters name: Jodie

Their age:  16
Characters age:  16

Their personality: Ophelia is unique, loud and confident but also resembles the typical social media geek. She is kind and sometimes a bit strange but in a good way.
Characters personality: The characters personality is she is a quiet shy girl that looks cute as in she wears glasses and band T-shirts. Jodie is the youngest of the group and keeps herself excluded when she doesn't want to speak her mind. She has moments when she is confident and leads the group in certain situations which no body would expect.

Reason for picking: We picked Ophelia as she defiantly looks like Jodie's personality. We also picked her as she has a feel of acting from GCSE. As well Ophelia's unique confident side would match Jodie's confident part of her personality successfully.

5
Their name:  Ashley
Characters name:  Tim

Their age: 16
Characters age: 17

Their personality:   Ashley is a know it all who is confident but secretly shy. He looks like a cool geek who loves science and maths.
Characters personality: The character we want Ashley to play is gay, shy and smart. He wears very urban geek clothes that include boots, jumpers and bland tops.

Reason for picking Ashley: We chose Ashley as he has a shy, chilled side what he can put into the character. Ashley also does A level drama and did GCSE drama, so we know that he is not afraid to get in front of a camera and do what we say.

This is a picture of Ashley who is playing Tim.
6
Their name: Alice
Characters name: 'The girl in white'

Their age:  16
Characters age: 12

Their personality: Alice is sweet, kind, cheerful and funny. She wears cute normal girly clothes but can act very boyish.
Characters personality: The character we want Alice to play hasn't really got a personality but she looks dull, dark and lifeless. The character walks slow but with a blank sad looking on her face.

Reason for picking Alice: The reason we picked Alice was because she is small and young looking so she would suit being a 12 year old. As well we wanted the girl to look scary but still cute and Alice's long dark brown/black hair and olive skin perfectly mirrors the girls image.

Planning - Producing A Storyboard For Your Opening

Storyboard

Introduction

This storyboard is essential to the filming process. This will be need at a constant during the days of filming, acting as checklist to each section that we film. It will be referred to when going through each shot, making sure the story is kept to.

1 The first board is an establishing shot.
This displays where the opening will take place.

2 The second board shows the main characters of the film.
In this one they are at the established place.

3 The third shows the main characters at site that will be where they will set up camp.

4 The fourth displays the cam has been setup.
the group realize that someone has gone missing.

5 The fifth is of two people who have gone to find the person who went missing from camping.

6 The sixth is of a point of view from one of those who is searching for the missing person.
They have fallen over and see a girl in the far distance for a second.

7  The seventh shows the person who fell over getting up and seeing that the girl has gotten closer to him and his  friend.

8 The Eight is back to the wooded area from the first board.
The group that were camping, are all now tied up on tree's. in the middle there is a clearing, where the girl, that the person who had fallen over had seen, is standing.
Surgical equipment  and tools are placed out onto a dirty, rusty table, behind where the girl is standing.

9 The Ninth displays a '20 YEAR LATER' mark.

Planning - Writing A Treatment For Your Chosen Opening

Treatment for the opening 2 minutes (including titles) of 'The girl in white' by Cloudy Village Productions

The opening of the film starts with a black out that slowly changes into a high crane establishing shot above the camping site in the woods.

'A Film Produced By Cloudy Village Productions' appears onto the screen and goes away when the camera starts to zoom into the camp.

The establishing shot zooms down into the camp and lands onto the floor and turns into a black out.

The camera then turns into one of the groups self recording camera with a timeframe in the corner of the screen.

'Edited By Mea, Hannah, Rachel and Taylor' appears onto the screen for a couple of seconds while the camera is going in and out of focus.

Tim picks up the camera and looks at it then a conversation takes place between Tim and Chad talking about how he found the camera.

While Tim looks at the camera and talking to Chad 'Music by Hannah, Rachel, Taylor and Mea' appears on the screen.

Tim is at the end of the line of the group, he moves the camera in his hands and points it at everybody in the group to then show them seeing up the tents.

The tittle 'Staring' appears in the middle of the screen.

Tim has set up the camera to film them setting up the tent while the girl in white is in the background with out them knowing. Then George Hales as Chad, Alex Rowden as Billy, Ophelia Wilson as Jodie and Ashley Paddick as Tim all appear in the corner of the screen 3 seconds after each other.

The camera gets turned off by Tim.

Tim turns the camera back on and says 'so guys who is getting the fire wood then?' Billy saying a joke to jodie and then Chad say 'guess all get it then' and he goes off.

There is shots of Chad walking back to the camp with wood in his hands then there is quick sharp shots of the girl in white running and attacking Chad then killing him.

Tim turns the camera back on and Jodie say 'guys where is Chad?', no one knows where he is and from this Tim has a conversation with the rest of the group and he decide to go and look for him then walks of.

then there is shots of Tim walking with his phone recording as he forgot the camera.

Tim then starts to run as he hears twigs breaking behind him, as he runs he falls over and drops his phone. This scene is a point of view shot of Tim, a high pitched tone appears to show that Tim has hurt his head. The girl in white then appears in front of Tim slowly walking towards him and then hitting him unconscious.

The screen goes blank.

The camera turns on and is being recorded from a self videoing camera but this time its not being held and filmed by Tim it is being video by the girl in white.

You can see the girl videoing her feet walking from the group towards her dangerous tools and then showing the tools layed out along the woodland floor. She picks up the tools one by one before she picks the right tool to kill them with.

The girl turns around while still videoing and pointing the camera at the group showing them all tied up the trees and struggling to escape and then she go closer to Jodie with a knife then she drops the camera and the screen goes blank.

At the end the screen will go blank and the words '20 years later' will slowly start to show bold in the middle of the blank screen.

Planning : Target Audience Feedback

Feedback

Introduction

We used survey monkey to get feedback for our horror movie from our target audience. This is 9 questions what we thought of to help us understand what our target audience experts in any horror. By doing this it will allow us, to when filming it and planning it out, understand what our target audience would like when seeing our horror opening. As you can see below we asked questions which asked for their answers to them in writing so we can get feedback from them and to see what people response are.

1
This first question shows us the age range of people that took the survey. This information helps us decide what ages we need to try to attract to our film.
2
The second question asked what they would expect in a opening of a horror film. Most of the results mention jump scares and death.
3
The third question ask what horror films do you like and the most common choices are ghost films.
4
Question four mentions what would scare you the most in a horror film and yet again the popular response was jump scares.

5
We asked if people liked cliff-hangers in question five and the highest percent of people say yes. We will use this information as it clearly shows that cliff-hangers are interesting and we should use it.
6
Question six describes two different question about how someone would make there own horror opening. From this there was a range of different clever responses that we could eventually use.
7
In question seven we asked about where is the best location for a horror film to be set. The answer woods came up twice and all the rest are different locations so setting the film in the woods would be a good choice for us.
8
Question eight we asked the viewers to read our pitch and then tell us if they think it will be successful. Four people said yes and the rest said no or its boring, so from this we need to change the story a bit to make it more interesting.

9
Question nine was our last question asked. We final asked if there was anything they would added to make the film better. From this we need to add a twist and make the opening unique.
